Diver Umbilical Cable | High-Flex Marine Cable for Commercial Diving

The DU-CDS series is a diver umbilical cable designed for commercial diving, offshore support, and saturation diving operations. Its multi-path bundled structure carries breathing gas, communications, and depth-reading signals through a dedicated strength member, while the high-flex PU jacket resists abrasion, seawater, and constant handling. This umbilical is built to IMCA diving equipment guidance, with independent path testing for diver safety assurance.

Key Benefits:
Independent strength member so tension never loads the gas or comms path
Rated to 300m with configurations available for deeper or saturation diving
4-path option adds power/video for topside visual monitoring
Built to IMCA guidance with full test documentation on request

Diver Umbilical Cable | High-Flex Marine Cable for Commercial Diving

When a diver is at depth, the umbilical is their lifeline — literally. Breathing gas, communications, power, and sometimes video all run through a single bundled cable that has to withstand tension, abrasion, seawater, and constant handling from the surface. This diver umbilical cable is built around that reality first, with electrical and gas-path performance engineered to commercial diving standards, not adapted from general marine cable.

What’s Inside the Umbilical

A commercial diving umbilical isn’t a single conductor — it’s a bundle of independent paths, each critical to diver safety:

Component Function
Breathing gas hose Delivers surface-supplied air or mixed gas to the diver’s helmet or mask
Communications cable Carries two-way voice comms between diver and surface tender
Pneumofathometer (pneumo) hose Provides real-time depth reading from the diver’s depth gauge
Power/video conductor (optional) Powers helmet lights and cameras, and carries video feed topside
Strength member Load-bearing core that takes tension so gas and signal paths never do

Each path is independently tested before the bundle is finished — a cracked comms line or a compromised gas hose is not something you find out about at 30 meters.

Matching the Umbilical to the Dive

Dive Type Typical Requirement Recommended Configuration
Inshore / harbor work Shorter runs, moderate handling Standard 3-path (gas, comms, pneumo)
Offshore commercial diving Higher tension loads, longer lengths Reinforced strength member, extended length
Saturation diving support Multiple divers, extended duration Multi-diver bundled configurations available
ROV-assisted or video-documented dives Requires visual feed topside 4-path configuration with power/video conductor

Built to Commercial Diving Standards

Umbilical failure isn’t a downtime problem — it’s a diver safety problem. Every umbilical we produce is tested before it leaves the factory:

  • Tensile testing on the strength member independent of gas and signal paths
  • Pressure testing on the breathing gas hose
  • Continuity and insulation testing on comms and power conductors
  • Abrasion and seawater immersion testing on the outer jacket

We manufacture in alignment with IMCA diving equipment guidance, and can support documentation requests for class society or client-specific compliance reviews.

Custom Configuration

Commercial diving operations rarely use an off-the-shelf umbilical — depth, dive plan, and vessel setup all affect the right build:

Option Available Configurations
Length Built to order, standard reels or custom lengths
Path count 3-path (gas/comms/pneumo) or 4-path (+ power/video)
Strength member rating Standard or heavy-duty for offshore tension loads
Termination Custom end fittings per helmet/panel interface
Marking Depth markings at customer-specified intervals

Frequently Asked Questions

What depth is this umbilical rated for? Standard configurations are rated to 300m, depending on path count and strength member selection. Deeper or saturation-diving configurations are available on request.

Can the umbilical include a video feed for the surface team? Yes — a 4-path configuration adds a dedicated power/video conductor alongside the standard gas, comms, and pneumo paths.

Is the strength member separate from the gas and signal paths? Yes. Tension load is carried by a dedicated strength member so that pulling or handling the umbilical never puts direct load on the gas hose or comms cable.

What communications equipment is this compatible with? The comms conductor is a shielded twisted pair compatible with standard commercial diving communication systems; connector and termination can be built to match your existing topside equipment.

Do you provide depth markings on the umbilical? Yes — depth markings can be added at standard or customer-specified intervals during manufacturing.

What documentation is available for compliance review? Tensile, pressure, and continuity test reports are available on request, along with material certificates for client or class society documentation needs.
